I cannot seem to get Chinese to work as the main language, even though it is on the list.

I *CAN* create course materials in Chinese, quizzes in Chinese, etc. and they all display fine. But, the LMS menus are not in Chinese.

It gives me a parse error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /hsphere/local/home/nietianl/asit.hrdchina.info/ components/com_joomla_lms/languages/chinese/main.lang.php on line 101

Line 101 contains the following:
$JLMS_LANGUAGE['_JLMS_PATHWAY_HOME'] = 'LMS �D��';

The Chinese characters are displayed as ???? ... this is a common occurance on machines that use English operating systems. I generally can, however, alter the character set to Big-5 (which is used in Taiwan and Hong Kong), and can view the characters correct in traditional Chinese (viewing the main.lang.php file in JoomlaXplorer, not on the frontend).

This won't work for mainland China. Or, better yet, shouldn't it be encoded in UTF-8 or something like that which is universal?

That still does not explain the parse error, though. It should load fine, just not be displayed as readable characters unless the user chooses Big-5 as the text encoding type.

Try to comment line 101 and test again.
If problem will occur again i will try to re-encode chinese files into UTF-8.

I tried commenting out line 101, and got the same parse error as before. Not sure why.

The Big-5 only works when I read the main.lang.php file using JoomlaXplorer.

As the way it works on my system is such, I unpublished Chinese as a language choice to prevent others from selecting that language and then getting locked into a parse error.

I will work on a version that can work with my existing Joomla (v1.0.12) with the language code cn, using Chinese simplified characters (UTF-8 encoding and not GB encoding).

I will keep you posted of how it works.

All parse errors are fixed.

P.S.
On attached screenshot you can see that one symbol (for announcement tool) is broken.
Could you test this translation on your computer?
Is this symbol really broken or my system font not supported some characters?

I downloaded and installed both beta language patches. Both of them only display one line correctly:

All others are gibberish.

Good news is that the parse error is no longer there. That is a major progress as before, if someone selected Chinese on the frontend, they would get a parse error and not be able to switch back to English or another language.

When I enter a course, the icons are all displayed, but the mouse-over text is mostly English, and any Chinese rendered is gibberish, like the lines below (I set my browser to UTF-8 as I made that the default language on the backend of JoomlaLMS):

The first line is what your screenshot displays next to the course item. I cannot make sense of it, it's gibberish to me.

The "square" is generally a character that the system cannot find. I've seen this a lot over the years, and it's a vexing problem.

Hi! We're looking for an integral (frontend and backend) and accurate translation for LMS in Spanish. The demo only supports Spanish language at frontend, so we need to know if we will have language support buying a license or if we will have to translate and correct it by ourselves.

Admin BackEnd of our LMS component is only in english language. Language files are not supported at Backend level.

FrontEnd of the component is using language files for outputting text messages.
We are already have a spanish language files, which you should see in our demo.
Also you can correct language files manually. (don't forget to backup them before installation of new JoomlaLMS versions)

So there's no way to translate the admin backend of the LMS component? It could be really interesting for your commercial purposes.

Our customers usually do not speak English (We're in Spain). That supposes a problem in distribution of products like yours in our country.

You can translate user interface in BackEnd by editing HTML code. (only interface, not a sytem messages/alerts about errors....)
But in this case you should do it again after each update.

BackEnd of our component is usually used only for first configuration.
All course management functions are accessed from FrontEnd.

We will try to do our best with backend translation in the demo.

When we finish our work with the design, configuration and startup of the website we give our customers the admin access to the backend so they can administrate the entire site, so there is our biggest problem with translations ^^.

Anyway we will look to change our "modus operandi" to avoid these kind of inconveniences.

We installed the Italian language but honestly there are many words untranslated and some are translated quite badly.

If you provide us the original files for version 1.05 we can do very fast the translation (we have three Italian teachers in our school)

Here is the latest english language files.
Italian language wasn't be updated for a long time and i can't provide anything better then included into our release.
All languages you can find in the installed component under 'components/com_joomla_lms/languages'
Also, you can use export/import functions under the Admin BackEnd -> coponents -> JoomlaLMS -> configuration -> 'languages' menu item at the left.

1. Install our software (e.g. trial version)
2. Open the Joomla administration area -> Components -> JoomlaLMS -> Languages
3. Export 'english' language. You will get a zip file with several language files in it.
4. Translate messages in the exported files, rename the language zip and nested folder to the new language name.
5. Import new language zip file at the 'JoomlaLMS -> Languages -> Import' page.

Also you can edit language files on your server, all language files are located in the 'components/com_joomla_lms/languages/' folder.

I'm a would be LMS administrator and content developer... I've heard a lot about joomla lms and I'm very eager to try it out... But the actual problem is that I wonder if it's possible to translate the learner front page into Turkish or is there any plan for release a Turkish language package...

No, I cannot find a Turkish translation, but it is possible to create one! I am sure one of the developpers will send you the complete (front end and back end) files in english for version 1.0.7 (no use starting with 1.0.6. because the new version will be out by the time you are finnished with translation work ;) ) and then you can get started.
