Hi, I plan to purchase this lms app shortly but have hit my first snag related to the front end, and v1.5 and legacy mode and the template we purchased.
We have installed v1.5 of joomla, we wanted the latest version and I read somwhere we could run lms in legacy mode. We went ehad and bought a template therefore for v1.5... and when we switched on legacy mode the front end was not displaying the internal pages correctly and the template support guys told me the template was designed to run only in v1.5.
Does this mean I havre to scrap v1.5 and the template, lose all the work I have done to date (front end work) and run this all in 1.0? What templates are other people using if they can run in legacy mode? Most frustrating and I have not even started in full.
Could you offer me some options? Thanks.
It is very strange that your template is working in the J1.5 native, but doesn't work in the legacy mode; we haven't experienced such problems before.
We don't suggest moving back to Joomla 1.0, as it will be no longer supported since July 2009.
I have no any ideas about your problem. Can you provide your template name and where it is from? Can you provide access to your site and we will take a look at the problem more closely?

Thanks for your fast response, i have submitted a ticket containing all the details.
I have also used 1.5 templates on 1.5 legacy, with no problems at all, so would appreciate it very much if you could login and take a look, maybe it is something simple like a setting somewhere but the template support guys said it was not possible to use legacy with their template. Weird.
Fingers crossed!

i think one of your support guys logged in and fixed this, thanks! (could you let me know how?)
You haven't received our reply in the ticket? Here it is:
After some tests on your server we came to the following conclusion:
this is not a legacy mode problem, as this is not a template-specific problem. We have tested with legacy enabled/disabled and with different templates. The problem exists in all situations.
After disabling 'Search engine friendly URLS' in the Global configuration the problem has disappeared.
Seems like SEF urls are misconfigured or there is a compatibility problem at the server side.
We suggest configuring SEF urls together with 'Apache mod_rewrite' option (you need to rename 'htaccess.txt' to the '.htaccess' which is located on FTP in your site folder).

... after July then, does this mean that we should run Joomla 1.5 in native mode? no legacy? To be honest i am not too familiar with what that means and of the impact there may be on other mdules like DocMan, which I believe may still require legacy mode? please can you confirm, thanks.
There are 2 versions of Joomla! CMS:
1) Joomla 1.0.x (latest is Joomla 1.0.15)
2) Joomla 1.5.x (latest is Joomla 1.5.9) Majority of extensions were developed for Joomla 1.0.x.
Joomla 1.5.x uses other API functions and all previously developed extensions for 1.0.x will not work on 1.5.x, but to solve this problem Joomla 1.5.x is provided with 'legacy mode' plugin, using which you can run 1.0.x-specific extensions on 1.5.x
We don't suggest moving back to Joomla 1.0, as it will be no longer supported since July 2009.
This phrase means that Joomla 1.0.x versions will be no longer supported officially by Joomla.org team - new bugs will not be fixed and new features will not be developed.
So, you should use Joomla 1.5.x and if one of your extensions was developed for 1.0.x you need to enable 'legacy mode' plugin (if there is no new version of this component for 1.5.x). This plugin emulates Joomla 1.0.x API for working of 1.0.x-specific extensions.

I've gone over the docs, forums.... it's got to be something I am missing.
There is no default joomlaLMS template that I can find anywhere, just the 3 defaults that come with joomla 1.5
I can configure from the LMS backend but cant get anything to show up on the front end (ive enabled/published everything I can think of).
Do I need to do something at the joomla 1.5 admin backend? do I need to do something at the LMS backend? (and yes I have the system online and have tried it offline as well....
Kinda frustrating. The doc/forums really dont help much. I could use some HELP! after a frustrating two days with ioncube issues now I wanna get rolling!
Gary
by the way, thanks to Maria for the help on ioncube!
Gary, I've already answered your question in the ticket, so for other users having this problem:
The answer to this question can be found in our FAQ section here:
http://www.joomlalms.com/lms-help/faq/installation-and-updating.html (the first question).
Regarding templates:
1. The template doesn't affect any menu items or LMS elements - it all depends on the configuration.
2. JoomlaLMS does not have a template (it inherits your Joomla site template), the LMS itself has rather few design elements - these are mainly navigation panels and icons.
