As a regular reader of this forum I am annoied by the recent flood of spams (trivial responses with some kinds of unrelated links). This is a waste of time, an absolute nuisance, reduces the reputation of this site and could even have legal implications in some countries. Thus I strongly suggest that some measures are applied to reduce spamming.... e.g.
- identification of spammers / IP blocking for repeated attempts
- not allowing publishing links for newbies, or in fact anybody (there is no need for that - serious linking can also be achieved by copy & pasting open URLs)
Thanks

We are working on this issue, but experience certain difficulties, due to the following points:
1. It seems that the registration of spam bots is not automated and is done by 'humans', because they are guessing our capture text from the first attempt and can confirm the email address without any problems.
2. There are only few 'spam bot' registrations per day and usually IPs are very different, so it can take a lot of time to get to know and ban all their available IPs
3. We can't use spam filters to block their messages, because in most cases message text is a part of another message from topic conversation without any changes. Unrelated links added by them to the user's signature or after some time by editing their post.
For the time being we are disabling user's signatures and adding all the spam attempts to the 'banned users/IPs' database. If these actions do not reduce the amount of spam after a few weeks - we will restrict the usage of any BB-code within the message text.

Thank you for your efforts. I know, it's getting more difficult these days.
Another thought.... maybe you could allow some trusted moderators to delete irrelevant spam postings. Whatever, maybe the problem will subside...

i have also seen this thing that people are using irrelevant signature to our forum.. but now the site team has closed the signature option in the profile menu.. so we are save from this now...
also who cares if they are posting wrong sites.. if they have good page rank than it will support our form as well ... and the most important thing we are not here to see the signature if the user is posting some thing good and informative than no matter whatever link he is using doesnt matter

In my view this comes close to the idea of what we call in Germany "unlauterer Wettbewerb" ....
Free adverts on a forum steal time from other users, fill mailboxes with junk (if you follow a thread), use an infrastructure for personal gain without giving back and divert attention from actual needs of forum users.
Sorry, Tami1, but let's take your postings as examples.... The domain you have as your website on the profile is NOT Joomla, the domains you advertise are NOT Joomla (so all the stuff can hardly be related to JoomlaLMS). That's fine with me, but what relevance apart from advertising does this have on this forum. Oh, and without backlinks I wonder how ranking of this forum is helped by weblinks? But maybe I missed the point.
