I'd like to use my Adobe Captivate eLearning projects on your LMS. My question is two-part:

1. Has anyone had success with Captivate and recording Scorm compliant content to the JoomaLMS? Can I take a look at your site?

2. Adobe Captivate publishes its content in Macromedia Flash files. Do I need to purchase your Flash Media Server license or can I host these Flash files on my server?

Thanks!

Matt

If you are using Captivate - just upload your course on the test website!

The flash server licence is only for the video conferencing. Flash files should work allright with the "normal" licence - I believe.

SCORM 1.2 seems to be a standard with several versions.... I use a SCORM 1.2 authoring tool - but it does not work correctly with JoomlaLMS. So it is important to do some testing first!

The most of SCORM 1.2 authoring tools are working with JoomlalMS (in some cases tracking works not correctly).
In next versions (1.0.2 or 1.0.3) SCORM tool will be completely remaked (SCORM2004 support, new SCORM12).

For host your swf files FMS is not necessary.

Thank you Andreas and Den for your help, I appreciate your taking the time.

When I attempt to upload the course.zip file I receive a message indicating the course.xml file could not be found. Captivate creates a manifest xml file and I make sure it is included in the zip file, but the upload fails every time. Any thoughts?

Firstly, create your new JoomlaLMS course. Then go to 'LearningPaths' section and create new LearningPath from SCORM.

Well, I got curious and downloaded the demoversion of Captivate and tried to upload a demo file. It is a bit tricky to include the xml file (Captivate didn't want to include it in the zip file at first). Finally I could upload the thing..... but: it doesn't run! No idea why not. I will give it a try on the demo site and report back.

Den, you may want to have a look at this:

I uploaded and published Soft-Skills Sample.zip
on

Test Course 2

It simply doesn't start.... Any ideas???

This package has some bad filenames (for ex. 'Soft-Skills Sample.swf' and 'Soft-Skills Sample.htm'). Could you create another package with filenames without spaces?

I created the learning path for the course (Windows XP Calculator) and uploaded the course, but the learning path looks like my file name (Windows_XP_Calculator.zip) and that seems odd.

What is the point of the Import link on the main Demo Course page if you must first create the course and the learning path? That seems counterintuitive. Even after creating the course and the learning path, I'm getting the same error regarding not finding a course.xml file.

SCORM package (created in Captivate) is not a "fully course" - it is a "learning material". In that case you could firstly create a course and then add your learning material to it (you could upload your package into 'Learning Paths' section). To view your material you could click on it. If you want to auto start your Learning Path (SCORM) on course entering, you can play with settings on course homepage. To test it you could change your role to student (or register new user and enroll to the course as student) at 'star' menu item.

P.S.
I've entered into your course and tested your SCORM. It is played correctly, but tracking not working. Try to re-publish your package (in Captivate) with another SCORM settings.

If you edit the Learningpath in LMS you can rename the file for viewing - like:
"My Test File" and even add a description. It still uses Windows_XP_Calculator.zip in the background, but is nicer to look at.

Well, I think Den answered that one already. SCORM is just one option in a rather complex LMS - and a nice one as well ;-). However, from what I understand Elearningforce is working on a smaller module which just plays back a scorm. If you are able to work with Captivate, you will like the greater options of a complete LMS, is my guess, though ;-) ....
