Hi, a main part of the site I am aiming to create is a type of question called Extended Matching questions. There are 5 questions in relation to a certain topic, and 10 answers in relation to that topic. The student has to choose the right answer for each question from the 10 answers. I was wondering if this type of question is possible? I can see that there is the possibility of drop-down matching, but is it possible to have more answers in the drop down list, without any more questions. If this is possible, and the student scores 3 out of the five, instead of having yes and no, actually getting a page that would have the correct answers on it.

If it was not for this specific type of question (which is increasingly being used in examining medical students) I would seriously be considering JooklaLMS, it certainly seems to have everything else I would require.

With the present version this type of extended matching is not possible. However, I understand that the whole quiz module is under "reconstruction"... So I take it, there may be such an option in the future - if it seems relevant enough to the boss ;-) I think your hint at medical examns has been helpful....

Thank you for your reply
I was reading my own post and couldnt fully understand what I had written, lol. As I said the biggest bulk of the project I am aiming to create is geared towards providing lots of practice questions (extended matching questions) for medical students, hence the quiz section is an important aspect in my decision.
I am doubtful if I would be able to find a program that would offer such functions. I have a subscription to an online "question bank" which is almost perfect in its functionality. It basically offers students a very extensive question data base, and gives feedback (regarding correc answer and progress) after each question. I wish I had the skills to program something like that.... may be you guys do?!
thanks again

I often use extended matching in assessments to increase the difficulty for the candidate. It also allows a candidate the opportunity to miss only ONE correct answer instead of at least two.

It also allows a candidate the opportunity to miss only ONE correct answer instead of at least two.

Answers in JoomlaLMS (and all other similar test tools I came across) are either right or wrong. For your suggestion to be useful there would be a need for "semi-correct" answers. If in multiple choice 4 out of 7 answers are correct (4 points) and a person selects 3 correct answers, but misses number 4, he currently would get 0 points. Your suggestion would mean: he would be able to get 3 points for the semi-correct answer.

In matching the principle would be the same. Would be a nice approach.... What does Bjarne think ???? What is Den saying???

After all, Bjarne said, " We can do anything in Joomla ;-) "

Just to clarify ... with standard matching, there might be 5 main clues, and 5 jumbled answers. With this configuration, if a candidate misses one item, then two of them must be wrong. With extended matching, there are more choices, which allows the candidate to miss only one, but also the difficult in increased (depending on how well the distractors are chosen).

I also agree that each is weighted. For example, if the entire matching assessment requires 5 answers, each answer should carry its own weight. In this way, if the entire 5 was worth 10 points, and the candidate misses one, the score would be 8.

Not sure I worded this well. Hope you can understand, and that anything IS possible with Joomla.
