I want to install the trial version before it expires, but I keep getting errors no matter which method I try to choose. In the joomlalms_helper.php install method, I get all the way to INSTALLER and it says:
"Trying to install JoomlaLMS_1.0.4_TRIAL_unzip1st.zip
An error occurred during the component's installation."
I don't understand this because I used ftp to put the package file and the php file in my public folder. How could there be an error?
If I try to use the joomla install component method it says:
"Failed to move uploaded file to /media directory."
I have checked everywhere on this one and can't figure it out also. My permissions are set to 777 and my server's bandwidth has hardly been used up at all.
Lastly, I upload all the files to my server via FTP, and they're all there under components/com_joomla_lms, but nothing shows up on my site; is there supposed to be something I can see in my backend?

There are several ways how to install the LMS. In my opinion the easiest way is uploading it like any other Joomla component. When you download the trialversion you first need to unzip the "outer zip" file to get - com_joomla_lms and the media_server_application (the second one is not really needed, unless you want to test videoconferencing, which I wouldn't recommend to start with).
Go to your Joomlabackend, choose menu "install" -> component and install com_joomla_lms with this tool. I never had any problems with this option.
Just uploading the files into the component folder will not install them!
Hope this helps
Hello amnion,
Firstly remove manuall installed component from your FTP (as you say lastly you've uploaded files to your FTP to the components/com_joomla_lms.)
Secondly at Joomla backEnd -> System -> System Info -> 'Permissions' tab - that all necessary folders are writable.
After that try to install the coponent using joomlalms_helper.php

Awesome guys, I had to delete the ftp'ed files and redo the helper thing and it worked perfectly! Thank you...

Well it's not happening for me! I got the same message the very first time I installed using the joomlalms_helper.php. There's no previous joomlaLMS files for me to remove:
"Trying to install JoomlaLMS_1.0.4_TRIAL_unzip1st.zip
An error occurred during the component's installation."
Any clues?
Check that folders listed at Joomla backEnd -> System -> System Info -> 'Permissions' tab - are writable.

Yes, they are all showing green - writeable. All the pre-installation checks are green as well.
This is on a remote host with W2003/IIS6/PHP - my production server. I had the same problem on my localhost - Vista/Apache.
But I recalled I managed to install it on Linux/Apache - my development server.
That's the only difference I can think of.
Increase max_upload_size and max_post_size PHP settings and try to install component using Joomla BackEnd installer. If it will report error more detailed - post the report here.

A check on my 3 settings as follows:
system - post_max_size - upload_max_filesize
staging (linux/apache) - 50M - 50M (OK)
localhost (vista/apache) - 80M - 80M (error)
prod (W2003/IIS6) - 200M - 200M (error)
Both my local and prod servers have higher values than my staging. I will go ahead with backend install anyway, and update on error reported, if any - stay tuned!
JoomlaLMS packages was packed on the Linux machine, try to repack it on your local computer, maybe this issue cause problems on the Windows machines.

Tried re-packing on Windows - no joy with joomlalms_helper.php.
Tried manual install on my prod server (W2003/IIS6) via Joomla CMS Installer - Upload File and Install. Failed - giving me a max_execution_time of 120 exceeded error. (My staging server max_execution_time was at 90 and it worked).
Finally did an unpack and upload via FTP to a remote directory, then did the install - this proved SUCCESSFUL. But the jlms folder and all its subfolders are unaccessible.
Tried on my local (Vista/Apache) - it's the same - installed but the jlms folder and all its subfolders are unaccessible.
SCORMs folder/ ! Unaccessible !
Backups folder/ ! Unaccessible !
Documents folder/ ! Unaccessible !
Temporary folder/ ! Unaccessible
Seems that the jlms folder was not created - Microsoft NTFS permission issue, I guess. Manually created the folders through FTP and Windows Explorer (for my local) and the error went away.
