I have a distance learning course. It is presently in a pagemaker 6.5 format. It includes illustrations. Presently we send it out in three volumes but I'm looking to be able to upload it and sell it to subscribers. When they purchase a module of it, they can then download it. Can your product accommodate all of these functions? Does it have a store function? Do I retain access to the material generated on joomla even if I no longer use the program?

It depends on the format in which you will upload the course.
I guess that Pagemaker supports the SCORM importing. In this case you can upload it to the JoomlaLMS as SCORM package and learners will be able view it only online (you will be able to see their tracking results in this case).
If you will add this course to the LMS as document (i.e. zipped document) then learners will be able only to download it and see it offline if they have a neccessary software (i don't know which format PageMaker used).
Also you can use both solutions and offer the course both online and offline.

what does SCORM MEAN -- The course consists of 36 lessons. Can joomla be set up to sell lessons in group or singly? I presume there is a store attached to Joomla.

Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly a function of a learning management system). SCORM also defines how content may be packaged into a transferable ZIP file.

Joomla is a CMS system; JoomlaLMS is a LMS component for Joomla.
JoomlaLMS can be configured to sell subscriptions to the courses (all learning materials, documents, scorms.....) can be placed inside the JoomlaLMS courses.

I am not sure what is going on here... ;-) So apologies, if I mess up. But PageMaker 6.5 does not support SCORM.

PM 6.5 produces paper documents and pdf format only. From what I can see the best way to deal with your issue to have a soft transfer from paper to LMS:

1. Create pdf files from your PageMaker and deposit them in the document section of JoomlaLMS

2. Add quizzes and homework assignments for your students on the LMS

3. And THEN start developping some SCORM files - either new or transfering PM 6.5 with copy and paste using some authoring tool such as WordForce ;-) or Captivate (that's from Adobe just as Pagemaker) or some other tool.

Hope this helps!
